Going for Bold Fashion This Women’s History Month

By Felicia Czochanski Bisaro

Just like every woman has a unique voice, every woman has a unique style. It’s not always easy to speak out and be true to yourself. It can take courage to express yourself through your clothes, but we have plenty of women we can take inspiration from. As we celebrate Women’s History Month this March, I’m drawing inspiration and strength from the achievements of the amazing women in our lives, and throughout history. That can be a great place to start when it comes to going bold.

Whether you lean into a statement sleeve or sky-high stilettos, remember that how you feel in what you’re wearing makes a big difference when it comes to how you present to the outside world, and how you celebrate yourself while doing it. Let’s take a look at this inspiration from real Goodwill® shoppers around the country.

Thrifted Blazer Sunny

There’s nothing better than a burst of confidence from feeling amazing in your own shoes and showing off your personal style. This sustainable fashion stylist and Goodwill shopper found a statement blazer on a secondhand shopping trip that was perfect for her television appearance. When you’re working hard to build your brand, wearing something unique can make all the difference. That’s why it can be great to shop at Goodwill for special treasures instead of a regular retailer who carries many of the same items.

Passing It On

There’s nothing like a bold accessory to boost your confidence and help you feel empowered. Passing on that tip to the young ladies in your life can give them a leg up as they get older. I love this photo from a Goodwill shopper and her daughter who found “mommy shark” and “baby shark” sunglasses on a thrift shopping trip. Style can be silly and fabulous at the same time as long as you feel good in what you wear.

Recreate The Unexpected

This classy workwear look is perfect for day to night, with an unexpected twist of creativity. This Goodwill shopper saw the potential in a pair of men’s trousers and took the risk to purchase them and style them herself. The result is this incredible look. It’s elegant and tied together with a slim silver belt. She is ready to give a big presentation or go out for dinner with the girls.

Exploring your style and learning how to get out of your comfort is fun and more affordable to do through secondhand shopping at a store like Goodwill. You can try out something unexpected at a fraction of the retail price.

Plus, shopping secondhand helps reduce textile waste so you’re being more sustainable in the process by contributing to a circular economy. When you buy from your local Goodwill, you’ve kept something out of a landfill. You’ve also supported your community through your purchase, because as a nonprofit, Goodwill reinvests its proceeds into the local community for people who are facing challenges to finding and maintaining employment.
